Brown Announces Farmland Preservation in Lawrence County

October 9, 2026

HARRISBURG – Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) announced today a 72-acre livestock farm in Pulaski Township will be preserved through Pennsylvania’s Farmland Preservation Program, protecting the property from future residential or commercial development.

The farm, owned by Mitchell James and Cassidy Noelle Whiting, is among 22 farms across 14 counties recently approved for preservation by the State Agriculture Land Preservation Board. The latest round of approvals protects a total of 1,228 acres of Pennsylvania farmland.

“Preserving farmland helps protect our agricultural heritage, support our farming communities and ensure future generations can continue producing the food and resources we depend on,” said Brown. “Protecting this 72-acre farm in Lawrence County is an investment in our local community and helps keep valuable agricultural land available for farming rather than future development.”

Through the Farmland Preservation Program, development rights are purchased from willing landowners to ensure preserved properties remain dedicated to agricultural use and are protected from future residential or commercial development.

With the latest approvals, Pennsylvania’s Farmland Preservation Program has protected 6,781 farms totaling 671,082 acres across 58 counties. Since the program began in 1988, more than $1.83 billion in state, county and local funds has been invested to preserve farmland throughout the Commonwealth.
