Brown Announces State Grants for Fire, EMS Services in Lawrence County
February 13, 2026
LAWRENCE COUNTY - Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) announced fire and emergency response organizations throughout the 9th Legislative District have been awarded nearly $141,000 in grants from the state.
“Our local fire departments and EMS agencies are the backbone of public safety in Lawrence County,” said Brown. “These state grants provide meaningful support for needs such as facility upgrades, equipment purchases and training, without placing additional strain on taxpayers. I’m grateful to see this investment directed to the dedicated men and women who answer the call every day.”
The funding comes from an ongoing grant program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). All funding comes from proceeds from slot machine gaming, and not General Fund tax revenue.
The following grants were awarded in the 9th District:
• City of New Castle Fire Department – $13,500.
• Hickory Township Volunteer Fire Company – $12,633.
• Mahoning Township Volunteer Fire Department – $12,220.
• Neshannock Township Volunteer Fire Company – $15,724.
• New Wilmington Volunteer Fireman’s Association – $12,839.
• North Beaver Township Volunteer Fire Department – $13,045.
• Pulaski Township Fire Department – $12,633.
• Shenango Area Fire District – $27,724.
• Taylor Township Volunteer Fire Department – $7,540.
• Union Township Volunteer Fireman’s Association – $12,839.
Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, recruitment and retention, public education about fire safety, or reduction of existing debt.
All companies that apply and meet requirements outlined by OSFC receive funding and must file a grant agreement with the office to receive their awards.
