Brown Appointed to Key Legislative Leadership Roles

HARRISBURG – Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) has been appointed to serve as Republican chair of the Subcommittee on Local Business under the House Commerce Committee, as well as Republican secretary of the House State Government Committee for the 2025-26 Legislative Session.

“I am honored to be appointed to these important leadership positions,” said Brown. “As chairman of the Subcommittee on Local Business, I look forward to working with my colleagues to advocate for policies that support Pennsylvania's small businesses and ensure their continued growth and success. Having been a small business owner myself, I understand firsthand the challenges these entrepreneurs face. It is my passion to help lift them up so they can thrive and contribute to our local economy. In my role as secretary of the House State Government Committee, I will continue to focus on strengthening state government transparency, efficiency and accountability for the benefit of all Pennsylvanians.”

The House Commerce Committee is responsible for originating legislation and overseeing the implementation of programs that affect Pennsylvania businesses. It has jurisdiction over corporate governance, business corporation law, and statutes such as the Goods and Services Installment Sales Act, the Unfair Sales Act, and the Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Act.

The House State Government Committee plays a crucial role in reviewing legislation that impacts all aspects of state government. This includes proposed amendments to the Pennsylvania Constitution, initiatives and referenda, the Public Official and Employee Ethics Act, the Regulatory Review Act, and Election Code reform, among others.

In addition to her leadership roles, Brown also serves on the House Appropriations, and Aging and Older Adult Services committees.
